Having about a half an hour to spare before we met a friend for lunch yesterday, C and I swung by Umstead Park (not the big one in Raleigh, but the little one in Chapel Hill). I remembered this park from my geocaching days, and was happy to return to it in a different capacity as a mama.
The playground equipment here is very nice. I guess that the playground equipment suffered storm damage a couple of years back and was completely redone circa 2008. And now that I think about it, the rest of the park did look a little more dated. Still nice, just older. Also, I read that this is the 2nd most-used playground in the Town of Chapel Hill. And I can see why: the equipment is big, simple, well maintained, with lots to do, and it is very conveniently located.
However, the ground covering is sand which personally drives me crazy. I already have a hard enough time keeping my car clean what with all the Cheerios. But it didn’t seem to bother C at all. There isn’t a lot of shade here either.
The thing I liked best about this park is how it is right on Bolin Creek. You can walk a little portion of the Creek here (although you eventually end up in a neighborhood if you go uphill). You can’t do it with a stroller, but it makes for a beautiful little walk.
